The original Galaxy Z Flip, which launched in February last year, is receiving the new software update with firmware version F700FXXS7DUG1. It’s unlikely to bring any user-facing changes, new features, and/or improvements. But in terms of vulnerability fixes, the August security maintenance release (SMR) contains plenty of them. As detailed by Samsung earlier this week, the latest Android SMR brings fixes for over 40 security issues. A couple of them were rated “critical” issues in Android OS. The new patch also contains fixes for eight Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items, which are security vulnerabilities exclusive to Samsung’s custom Android skin, i.e. One UI.
Galaxy Z Flip joins the August security update party from Samsung
Samsung has led the pack for Android OEMs in terms of monthly security updates for several months now. The Korean behemoth, which sits atop on the list of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers, consistently beats out every other company in releasing the latest security to its devices. In fact, the company has made habit of beginning the rollout a few days before we flip the calendar to the new month. This month has been no different. Samsung began rolling out the August SMR to its devices in the last week of July. The Galaxy A52 had the distinction of picking up the update first. A bunch of Galaxy devices has followed the suit since, including the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy Fold, and the Galaxy S9 series. The Galaxy Z Flip is now joining this party. If you’re using the Galaxy Z Flip foldable and live either in Asia or Europe, a new update should be on your way anytime now. As always, you should receive a notification prompting you to download the update over the air (OTA). You can also manually check for updates from your phone’s Settings app. Open the app, scroll down to the Software update menu, and tap Download and install. If an OTA update is available, you’ll be prompted to download it on the next screen. If you don’t see any pending download, it should show up in a few days.
