However, a date has been rumored, and Discord is apparently set to launch the PS5 voice chat integration by March of 2023. Following a delay from the original launch date that would have seen it released this year. A March release also assumes there are no more delays. For now, Discord appears to still be working on the feature, which is seemingly only available within the beta version of the Discord mobile app and only in a closed test. It’s also not clear if the test is internal or not.
Discord voice chat on PS5 would work just like it did on Xbox
While PS5 users have to continue waiting for Discord voice chat integration, the feature is already available on Xbox. And it even recently went through an update that makes the process easier. Back when it first launched, though, you were required to start the call on the mobile app first. Then transfer the call to the Xbox console using the Xbox mobile app, which would also need to be connected to Discord. This is exactly how the feature is going to work on PS5. Based on the screenshots shared by advaith. When tapping on a call in the Discord mobile app, you’ll see an option to join on Xbox or join on PlayStation. Then you’ll go through a couple prompts. One of which is to sign in with your PlayStation ID. From there, it seems like the call would be transferred to the PlayStation Mobile app. Which would then allow the call to transfer to the PS5 console itself. Also worth noting is that this feature appears to be exclusive to PS5. One of the screenshots states that “certain features are only available on PS5.” And one of the features listed is, you guessed it, joining voice chat. If the feature is now in testing, internally or otherwise, then maybe PS5 players will get a chance to test it later on before a full rollout. Or one could hope.
