In recent months, Google has announced a new design for its apps and services, inducing a new design for the sharing section of Docs and Play Store on the web. The latest redesign is now heading to Gmail. Of course, the rollout has started today, and it takes time to be enabled for all users globally. As you can see in the screenshot, the old white page on the Gmail background is now replaced with a faint/light blue with some shades. The left menu that houses the Gmail option got a slightly darker shade. Also, the read emails get a blue color, while the unread ones remain white. The compose button is also changed. The new button now has rounded corners with a smaller size instead of a big, oval design. Google rolled out the MY redesign to Gmail for Android in September 2021. More and more Google services and apps are now getting a modern look.
Gmail web version gets Material You redesign
As per the company’s announcement, the design is available to Google Workspace Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, Frontline, and Nonprofits, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers. Also, users with personal Google accounts, as well as Google Workspace Individual users, are eligible to get the Material You redesign on their Gmail web version. But the new design is not yet available to Google Workspace Essentials customers [which does not include Gmail]. The Material You redesign is not the only change that Google brings to its email platform. Gmail now offers a ‘Gmail-only’ view that removes the Chat, Spaces and Meet layout. The new feature helps you concentrate on your emails and not get distracted by other conversations.
