Some new Nest cameras have a major security flaw
The Nest security cameras are a great means of protecting your possessions, but what if the camera itself is at risk of being stolen? The battery-powered Nest Hello Doorbell and the battery-powered Nest Cam are held in place magnetically. This is a convenient way of attaching and detaching them from their mounts. However, this poses an obvious security threat. It’s easy for a potential thief to just waltz up and pluck the camera from the mount. Sure, there are security mounts, but those are sold separately.
This is where the Hello theft replacement policy comes in
Because the battery-powered devices are so vulnerable to being stolen, Google has extended its Hello theft replacement policy to them. If you report that your Nest device stolen, the company may give you another one. You just need to keep in mind that Google retains the right to deny a claim if there’s any suspected fraud. If it seems like you’re lying just get a free camera, you’ll be out of luck. This policy does not extend to all Nest devices. The only devices that are on the list are the Nest Cam Battery, Hello Doorbell (battery), and the Hello Doorbell (wired). The other Nest products are not eligible for replacement. The document is extremely useful if your product is stolen, so it’s worth reading if you have just purchased a Nest item.
The new Nest devices offer good specs at lower prices
As stated before, Google has unveiled a line of refreshed Google Nest cameras. The new Nest Cams come can capture 1080p video at 30fps. They shoot at a nice and wide 130-degree field of view to help see more of what’s going on. The regular Nest Cam can be placed either inside or outside and will cost $179.99. For $100 more, you can get the Nest Cam Outside with attached floodlights. The cheapest camera on the list is the Nest Cam Indoor. This is really small and really affordable at $99. It lacks the IP rating, so it can not be taken outside, however. While it’s less expensive than the regular Nest cam, it still has the same internal camera specs. The revamped Hello Doorbell is a lot more svelte than the original. The new Hello Doorbell costs $50 less than the original at only $179.99.
