The expansion will be a PS5-exclusive release and it’s set to drop in April of 2023. Specifically on April 19 so it’ll be in the second half of the month. Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores will be set in a post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles. Much of the city that can be seen in the trailer is torn asunder and overgrown with plant life. Lava waterfalls cascade down the sides of the landscape while Aloy flies above on her majestic Sunwing mount. Aloy will have to traverse the volcanic archipelago in search of a sinister threat. Which amounts to a giant machine that looks sort of like a giant hermit crab with tentacles. Developer Guerilla Games didn’t offer up much information about the specifics of the expansion’s content just yet. But the studio does give a few details.
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores continues the story
As noted above, Aloy will be traveling to L.A., a “dangerous region south of the Tenakth Clan Lands.” The expansion’s story also picks up where the base game left off. So you probably don’t want to play the expansion content until you’ve finished the main game. If you’re even able to do so beforehand in the first place. Guerilla also states that players can explore the new area both by air and by sea. Some parts will be explorable via the Sunwing while players must swim through the waters of the region in other parts. That’s about it for details on the expansion so far. But Guerilla does hint at more information coming very soon. Expect this information to include a cost, as well as potential new features and more of the newly added content coming to the game with the Burning Shores release. You can also watch the teaser trailer for it above and check out some more screenshots in the official blog post.
