OPPO makes major ColorOS update promises to its global flagship users
The company promises four major ColorOS updates, and five years of security patches for global users on selected flagship models. This policy will go into effect starting next year, by the way. Needless to say, this is very welcome. Do note that “four major ColorOS updates” don’t necessarily means four major Android OS updates, even though OPPO does follow along with its ColorOS numbering. For example, ColorOS 13 is attached to Android 13, so it’s possible we’ll get four major Android OS updates too. Security updates, on the other hand, are always welcomed, and seeing that we’ll get five years’ worth of them is commendable, and in line with what Samsung offers, for example.
ColorOS 13 represents the fastest global software rollout in OPPO’s history
That’s not all, though. OPPO also announced its fastest rollout with ColorOS 13. Since launching on August 18, 2022, ColorOS has been delivered to 33 smartphones globally. That makes it “the fastest and biggest update in the history of ColorOS”, says the company. Over 50% more handset models were compatible with ColorOS 13 compared to ColorOS 12 during the same four-month period. Also, there are three times more users covered during the global rollout this time around, during the same period. OPPO introduced ColorOS 13 with its Aquamorphic Design back in August. ColorOS 13 is actually quite similar to OxygenOS 13, but also quite different than Google’s stock Android. From what we’ve seen on the OPPO Find X5 Pro, the global variant of the OS works really well, as you’d expect.
